Step 1: Get Your Basics Down – Fill out each section of your business listing

- Make sure to showcase your strengths in 2-3 short sentences in the specialty section.

- Add amenities that set you apart from competitors such as your health score, parking, and delivery. Be sure to add as many amenities that apply to your business as possible so that Yelp users can have access to all the information they need.
- Consider keywords – When writing your description and specialties think of a few specific phrases that a user might search for when looking for a business like yours. Naturally include a few of these keywords to help your search engine rankings. For example, if you own an italian restaurant your keywords could be “pizza delivery”, “authentic italian”, and “housemade pasta”
Step 2: Select Categories That Fit You
Yelp provides a list of 1,200 categories to help define your local business. You can choose up to 3 categories, but you may be able to characterize your business with less. Remember only select categories that directly relate to your current business, otherwise this may give potential customers a false understanding of your offerings.
Step 3: Use Check-In Offers to Your Advantage
Check-Ins allow your customers keep track of the businesses they visit and earn badges for their loyalty. Once a customer has earned a badge you can allow them access to special offers and promotions. This not only encourages repeat customers, but entices them to visit your yelp page and write a review.
Step 4: Add Links to Yelp
Add your Yelp profile link to your marketing emails to build reviews from your most loyal customers. Attract new users to your listing and entice them to learn more by adding a Yelp icon linked to your profile on your website.
Step 5: Respond to Reviews
- Negative reviews: respond kindly and be sure to apologize. Then, explain what you have done to fix it and feel free to ask for their email to follow-up privately. This can result in other Yelp users reading and respecting your business’s response and could cause the customer to delete their negative review.
- Positive reviews: remember to thank them, ask for their information, and if they would like to join your email list. This is an opportunity to grow your email subscribers and send customers a discount to come back.
